Breakthrough New Studies on Almased for Metabolic Health

Written by Jamie, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

The great scientist and science-fiction writer, Isaac Asimov, once wrote, “There is a single light of science and to brighten it anywhere is to brighten it everywhere.”

With two new landmark studies, that light of science is shining brightly on Almased, which has over three decades of research under its belt. The first study looked at Almased and different metabolic markers in healthy people (1); the second study examined the effects of Almased in people who were overweight or obese and had risk factors for metabolic syndrome (2).

Almased and Obesity

In the first of the new studies (1) — which was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition — the authors recruited a group of healthy, normal-weight folks between the ages of 18 and 35.

Then people were randomly placed into one of two groups.

One group received Almased. The second group, the control group, was fed a diet with the same number of calories, but was high in carbs and low in protein – a standard North American diet.

The Almased-supplemented participants experienced the following benefits:

  • Increased thermogenesis, meaning that metabolism was enhanced and absorption of nutrients was improved.
  • Enhanced fat burning — specifically that the body (a) was burning body fat instead of carbs as fuel and (b) was moving more fat out of storage and into cells’ energy factories, the mitochondria, where they were used for energy, promoting fat loss.
  • Decreased resistance to weight loss and improved ability to stay appetite-satisfied.
  • Improved use of carbs, along with a reduced tendency to gain fat.

The authors said this study proves that “a calorie is not just a calorie” —  that a high-protein (and low-glycemic) diet is superior to other diets that have the same number of calories but which have more carbs and less protein.

Almased, Healthy Sugar Handling and Body Weight

The second of the new studies is the ACOORH trial, with ACOORH standing for “The Almased Concept against Overweight and Obesity and Related Health Risk” (2).

It’s an international randomized and controlled study comparing the effects of an Almased meal-replacement-based lifestyle intervention vs. lifestyle intervention alone in overweight or obese adults with risk factors for metabolic syndrome.

The authors recruited people between the ages of 21 and 65 who overweight or obese and met one of the following criteria: (a) elevated fasting blood glucose; (b) elevated triglycerides; (c) low levels of HDL (or “good”) cholesterol; or (d) untreated low-level hypertension.

People in both groups visited the study center at baseline as well as after 4, 12, 26 and 52 weeks. Participants in the Almased group received the Almased meal-replacement during the first 26 weeks.

The meal-replacement participants experienced the following benefits:

  • Fasting insulin levels were healthier.
  • Weight reduction was enhanced.
  • Inflammatory chemicals were lower.

In this study, even folks who only used Almased for a short time had a more significant weight reduction compared to those from the lifestyle-only control group.

In other words, the participants who only used Almased for 4 weeks lost as much weight after one year as those in the control group who carried out the lifestyle intervention without Almased throughout the entire study.

The authors said that this study adds to the body of evidence showing that “meal replacement-based lifestyle interventions” — specifically Almased — can lead to support for healthy blood sugar and insulin levels, significant weight loss and enhanced overall health.

Enter Almased

These exciting new studies add to a body of evidence for Almased that’s been building for over 30 years. In fact, the scientifically-proven Almased Diet has now helped hundreds of thousands of people get healthier.

In fact, every serving of Almased is bursting with 27 grams of high-quality protein and all of the essential amino acids, in addition to vitamins and minerals. Almased is made from non-GMO soy, yogurt, and enzyme-rich honey.

Science-backed Almased is a diabetic-friendly cellular-health powerhouse that supports metabolism, healthy blood sugar and sustainable weight loss.
